Hurricane Helene hit western North Carolina with unexpected force, leaving towns and familiar landscapes buried under floodwaters and roads cut off by landslides. Many homes and businesses, places I’ve known for years, are now damaged beyond recognition, and entire neighborhoods are struggling to get back on their feet.
